Christian Science and the Churches

The Baltimore World

Editor The World.

In your issue of yesterday you published a reference to a sermon by the Rev. Dr. S. L. Norris, in which you say that he spoke "on the way the church was threatened by Christian Science," and your headline read "Menace to the Church." As one who has investigated this subject most thoroughly I ask you kindly to allow me a few words in behalf of our denomination.

If there are any man-made creeds, dogmas, and doctrines that cannot stand the test of modern research, enlightenment, and revelation they will have to go down, just as they have done through all the centuries, before the march of progress. Truth can never be destroyed, actuality can never be annihilated, and if what Dr. Norris calls "the Christian Church" contains anything that is not absolute truth, then that which is false will some time be supplanted by that which is true or by that which more nearly approximates divine truth, as has been the case in religion as well as in astronomy and the various sciences.
