In searching for an explanation of the phrase "general human consciousness," used by me in a previous communication to your columns, Mr. Jay states:—

"If by the phrase is meant that people generally regard matter and disease as something real, would it not be necessary to change the opinion of most people before it would be possible to effect any cures by this method?"

This question goes very near to a vital point in the teaching of Christian Science, namely, the explanation of what Mrs. Eddy has denominated "mortal mind." According to my understanding, this mortal mind is a supposed opposite of the Mind, God. The word "supposed" is used, because in reality there can be no opposite to Infinity. Mrs. Eddy states, on page 114 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures:"—
