Great Fear Overcome
One of the great benefits received by me through Christian Science has been the destruction of the fears which followed me from childhood. I was afraid of almost everything, especially of people, of the dark, of ghosts. The very air seemed filled with horrors. This condition was intensified by the loss of two children within six months, and my mental condition was deplorable. I was unable to sleep naturally, and was tempted to use opiates. Every noise of the night seemed to mean that the house had been broken into, and that something horrible was about to happen.
One day, while pondering over my condition, it came to me: God is our ever-present help and defender, and having seen much accomplished by the declaration of, and trust in, His promises, I determined to commit myself to His care. That night upon retiring, I mentally wrote over every outer door this verse, "The angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them." On every window sill I wrote, "God is Love," and "God is omnipresent." I slept like a child and have ever since been free from the "terror by night."
I am truly grateful for the many blessings that have come to me through the understanding of God, made possible by the study of the Bible in the light of Christian Science.
