Actors Attend Church
News
No doubt many friends of the Percy Haswell Stock Company, which Baltimore has just received with open arms, will be much pleased to learn something of the religious proclivities of its members.
When it is known that every one of the company is a church member and attends some place of worship in Baltimore every Sunday, they will be more pleased.
A great many persons, through misinformation, have at one time or other in their lives imagined that members of the theatrical profession have little to do with churches, and still less with religion; that they are wrapped up in worldliness and their non-Christian ideas of life. Nothing could be more erroneous. The truth is, there is not a better-hearted and more pious set of people than that with whom we become acquainted across the footlights. Doubtless many will remember the much-needed lesson Mary Anderson once taught a lady who had risen in church to say ugly things about theatrical folk, not dreaming that one of the most honored daughters of the stage was before her. That same lesson could be taught a hundred times a month at present, were it possible that a champion of the stage could always have the opportunity.
