Christian Science awakened a Desire to do Good

For several years I have been the recipient of many helpful thoughts expressed thoughts expressed through the Journal and Sentinel, by those who have been healed by Christian Science and are now working in the Master's vineyard, and I feel it is my duty, as well as privilege, to tell what the Truth has done for me.

Up to the time that Christian Science was brought to my notice, some five years ago, I was never well. From childhood I had been extremely nervous, and I also inherited weak lungs and was rarely ever free from coughs and colds.

Later on, other diseases developed, among them heart trouble, which caused me a great deal of anxiety. One physician pronounced it a deformity of that organ. I was treated by several skilled physicians, for that and other troubles, the last physician telling me, that unless I could have an operation performed, I could never be cured, and that on account of my heart trouble, it would be impossible for me to take ether. This so discouraged me, that I finally decided to quit the physician's treatment, and began a course of patent medicine at home.

A short time after this, I went to visit relatives at my former home, and while there, the wife of our family physician cailed to see me. She had become deeply interested in Christian Science, and as she explained to me what it was, I drank in every word and knew it was what I needed. I remember saying to her, "Do you suppose it can cure me?" to which she replied, "Yes, it reaches all diseases. There is nothing impossible with God." She repeated the Child's Prayer (Mother's New Year gift to the little children), which I thought so beautiful, and at night, upon retiring, I clung to the thought, "I know that God His child doth keep" (Miscellaneous Writings), and felt secure, From that hour I gave up all material remedies, and, although I was not having treatment, I began at once to improve. My friend gave me some Journals and "No and Yes" to read. Upon my return home, I met two Scientists, who had moved there during my absence, who kindly let me have a copy of Science and Health.

I was so eager for more of the Truth, that it seemed as though I could not read fast enough. As I read it through the second time, more slowly, I found I was gaining still clearer views of the Truth, and my old troubles were leaving me.

Two years later, it was my privilege to take class instruction from one of the Mother's loyal students, and I am deeply grateful for this blessing. Christian Science has not only healed me physically, but has also awakened in me the desire to be and do good, and to strive to overcome all that is unlike Christ, My gratitude to God and our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, can only be expressed through faithful obedience, and a life consecrated to Good.
