Two Cases of Healing
About a year and a half ago, a man came hobbling into my room, saying, "I have come to you because a friend has frequently urged me to do so, but I have not come until now, because, to tell the truth, I have no faith in Christian Science. I have had sciatic rheumatism for seventeen years, and have tried about everything that has been recommended for it. I am now suffering severely with the worst attack I have ever had. Winter is coming on, and how can I get through it in this condition? Can you help me?" His appeal was almost despairing.
He told much more about his case, which is omitted. He was told something about what Christian Science is and what are its possibilities, etc. He was asked if he would comply with certain conditions, if he would read some Christian Science literature, etc. He agreed to the requirements and left. In four or five days he came again limping but slightly and saying joyfully as he entered, "The pain is practically gone, and it is wonderful what I can do!" Among other things he said, "I have a little boy eleven months old whom I have never been able to carry. I could sit and hold him but could not lift him. Last Wednesday [he called on Monday] I carried him up and down stairs and up and down a hill and I can do other things which I have not been able to do for a long time."
His doubts had disappeared and faith appeared. He went to the Publishing House and bought "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" and he and his family read and study it. He was treated three weeks and called himself well. Somewhat later I asked the friend who had induced him to take treatment, "How is Mr. S.?" The reply was, "He says he is well, and happy as a boy." Later Still I met a lady who said, "I saw your patient, Mr. S., to-day, and he says he is well, and happy as a boy."
