Grateful for Blessings Received

The apostle James tells us that "every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning." Here is the emphatic declaration that God is the source of all that is real, and that we are indebted to Him for all that we have and are. God has created all things and freely bestowed them upon us, not because we loved Him but because He first loved us. What then should be the attitude of thought toward Him who has freely given us all things? Should it not be one of deepest gratitude,—a never-ending song of thanksgiving?

The gift of divine Love is freely bestowed, but the limitations of mortal thought prevent the recognition of this fact. The changes that take place in human consciousness cannot change God nor cause Him to do more than He has already done; but that which imparts a truer sense of God and His creation enables one to partake more largely of that which God has already bestowed.

The promises of the Scriptures are verified to those who have faith. Jesus frequently said to those whom he healed, "According to your faith be it unto you," showing that the blessing was in proportion to their ability or fitness to receive.
