Expressions of Gratitude

Dayton (O.) Evening Herald.

"Thanksgiving and Prayer" was the subject chosen for the Wednesday evening meeting at First Church of Christ, Scientist, Dayton, O. Services were opened by singing.

The 107th Psalm was read as a Scripture lesson, followed with selections from the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker G. Eddy. After a few moments of silent prayer the congregation united in repeating audibly the Lord's Prayer, and after another hymn, the First Reader announced, "The meeting is now open for experiences and remarks on subjects that are in line with Christian Science. We have much to be thankful for, benefits physically, financially, morally, and spiritually, and for these blessings we should express gratitude and thankfulness."

Said one lady, "As Christian Scientists we are grateful for the liberty which Truth has brought us; grateful for the release from the bondage of old superstitions, many of which were a fearsome nightmare to us from early childhood; thankful that in Christian Science we have a religion founded on Love instead of fear; one that creates within us a purer love for God, and a more unselfish regard for our neighbor; thankful for a whole salvation. Especially should we be grateful for the practical application we can make of these wonderful scientific truths to our every-day needs, and its far-reaching and incomparable results; thankful for the great good Science is doing for suffering humanity in so many directions all over the world. This Truth that is able to meet all forms of error, that is capable of solving the world's greatest problems and filling the world's greatest needs, should constantly call forth our heart's best gratitude."
