A Courageous Apology
Register
The Register yesterday, through an inadvertence which is practically inevitable in the selection of news matter of a miscellaneous character, printed an article to the effect that Rev. Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, some time ago treated a patient in Philadelphia, but without the slightest effect. The story appeared originally in the New York World but was afterward corrected by it and pronounced untrue. It is still on its travels and evidently ahead of the denial. Having fallen into error we gladly enter an apology and correction. Mrs. Eddy not only did not treat the patient, but receives no patients at any time or under any circumstances. Our chief reason for making this correction is not that we regard the story as of any consequence, but in order that Christian Scientists shall have the same protection against misrepresentation at our hands that any other faith is entitled to and receives.
