Broken Arm Healed by Christian Science
A few weeks ago, one Friday afternoon, a lady came hurriedly into my office, saying, "Mrs.—wishes you to come to her as soon as possible; her daughter, little Ruth, about five years old, has broken her arm." I replied that it was impossible for me to go at once, but to tell the mother that I would commence treatment immediately and come over as soon as I could. To outward appearances I was very much engaged with other work, yet the thought of Truth was above it all, and I so clearly realized God's presence and all-powerfulness that a feeling of peace came to me and I knew that all was well with God's child.
In this sweet realization I remained, and about an hour later I went to the home of the little girl and found, as I expected, that she had gone to sleep. The mother told me that several little children had been playing on a fence and one of them pushed Ruth and she fell to the ground, striking her arm on a stone. The children ran to Ruth's mother and told her that Ruth was hurt. The mother hurried to her, and as she picked her up she pushed up the sleeve of her dress and noticed a protrusion on one side of her arm and a corresponding indentation on the other side, which looked as though the bone was broken and pushed out of place. She immediately pressed down the lump and took Ruth into the house and bound a strip of flannel around her arm and sent for me. Then she took "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and declared the Truth with all her might and tried to quiet the child with the assurance that divine Love watches over all, and no harm could come to her. In a little while she fell asleep.
I read a little more from Science and Health with the mother, and then we silently realized the presence of infinite Mind and the nothingness of matter. Soon little Ruth awoke and came running to me full of joy, bringing to me her latest picture-books to show me, saying nothing about her arm and paying no attention to it whatever, merely allowing it to hang limp at her side. In a short while I took her upon my knee, and while talking with her I felt of her arm and found that there was no swelling and no claim of fever, and harmony seemed to reign.
