REFLECTION

Windowpanes will not shineThrough a long and darkened night,But moon and stars and glow of sunMake them reflect the light.

GOODNESS LEADS ONWARD

I used to call the little things I did—Like unseen favors, simple courtesies,The drying of an eye,Exchange of jolly wit for plaintive sigh—Trivialities,A sort of marking time, till grand realitiesMight start my upward, heavenward, climb.

HOMESTEAD

I moved into the light,And suddenly I sawThat house was mine.
"Put up again thy sword into his place,"Jesus admonished the impetuous oneStriking in vain defense.

CHRIST JESUS

He went a little further—always he wentFurther—outdistancing in more than space—Further in meekness, further in consentTo do the Father's will, further in grace.

THE HEALING WORD

The healing word is gently saidBy those who are through Spirit ledTo understand and to rejoiceThat man reflects the Father's voice.

WRITTEN IN HEAVEN

To those accusing onlookers,The Master spoke no word,But stooped and wrote upon the ground,As though he had not heard.

THE MEEK IN HEART

The soft rebuke—how kind it was—and thenin pure reflection of God's gracethe outstretched hand to ease the hurt;and following fast the tender wordthat turned reproof to heaven's song.
