Eye on the world: For peace in Jerusalem
In an article titled “Fresh eyes on Jerusalem’s stubborn impasse” The Christian Science Monitor observes that what has typically been viewed as an insoluble problem—the status of Jerusalem’s Old City and access by Jews and Muslims to their respective sacred sites—might be solvable now. A new report from the International Crisis Group offers bold solutions, including access for all communities. The Monitor notes that the report “even quotes the late King Hussein of Jordan who suggested sovereignty over the site be assigned to God, not just one religion, with Israelis, Jordanians, and Palestinians charged with working out the details.” By bravely coming together through religious dialogue, the Monitor says, peace could be achieved.

“Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Behold, I will save my people from the east country, and from the west country; and I will bring them, and they shall dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God, in truth and in righteousness.” (Zechariah 8:7, 8 )
Passages from the writings of Mary Baker Eddy:
“One infinite God, good, unifies men and nations; constitutes the brotherhood of man; ends wars; fulfils the Scripture, ‘Love thy neighbor as thyself;’ annihilates pagan and Christian idolatry,—whatever is wrong in social, civil, criminal, political, and religious codes; equalizes the sexes; annuls the curse on man, and leaves nothing that can sin, suffer, be punished or destroyed.” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 340 )
“With one Father, even God, the whole family of man would be brethren; and with one Mind and that God, or good, the brotherhood of man would consist of Love and Truth, and have unity of Principle and spiritual power which constitute divine Science.” (Science and Health, pp. 469–470 )

In “To unify Jerusalem”: “Could it be that a unified understanding of God, in this city of great spiritual significance, holds the solution to its difficulties, and will bring it to an ultimate expression of ‘home, heaven’? One way to achieve this unified understanding is to let go of the view of God as ‘superhuman,’ and instead to see Him as divine Spirit, Truth, Love, Life, Soul, Mind, Principle. These synonyms for God are infinite by their very nature. Taking this approach to God lifts the discussion above debates that could block progress, and offers a spiritual approach, rather than a material one.”
In “The New Jerusalem”: “The city of God is not limited to certain citizens, but is open to all. Christian Science helps mankind to discern and demonstrate the truth of their selfhood as spiritual ideas, expressing the one divine Mind. It discounts and nullifies the discordant and aggressive beliefs of the carnal mind and reveals the relationship of man to his Maker as an honored citizen in the holy city of God.”
