Eye on the world: Woman is not inferior
In “Gender gap has narrowed in more than 100 countries” The Christian Science Monitor notes that while countries around the world “have made significant gains in gender equality in recent years,” there’s more work to be done, as “complete gender equality in economic participation and opportunity remains decades away.”
Ideas on this subject:
From the Bible:
“God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” (Genesis 1:27 )
From the writings of Mary Baker Eddy:
“Man is the generic term for all humanity. Woman is the highest species of man, and this word is the generic term for all women; but not one of all these individualities is an Eve or an Adam.” (Unity of Good, p. 51 )
“Let the ‘male and female’ of God’s creating appear.” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 249 )
Related articles from The Christian Science Journal and Christian Science Sentinel:
In “Woman is blessed, not cursed”: “God, being infinite Spirit, has created male and female in the likeness of Spirit, not matter…. Both female and male derive directly from God…. Male and female represent qualities of thought, which each one of us expresses spiritually and uniquely.” And “Every man and every woman has a place at our Father-Mother’s table. And it is a place of deep and eternal dignity, dominion, productivity, and blessing.”
In “The Elevation of Woman”: “Man in God’s image is not divided into sexes. Each individual expression of the one Spirit, God, reflects God’s father-motherhood.” And “... all of us can begin immediately to recognize the completeness of man in the Science of being by elevating our sense of woman. Men need to value women more, and women need to value themselves more—not as members of a sex but as reflections of the Father-Mother…. As we learn not only to appreciate the qualities of womanhood as qualities of ‘the highest species of man’ but to cultivate and cherish these qualities in ourselves and others, we will discover the potential we need to solve our problems and those of mankind.”
