Love gets through

In the really hard moments, when it seems like everything in our lives, or in the world, is going wrong, it might feel like God isn’t there. I’ve had more than a few of those moments in my own life. Sometimes, I’ve responded to them with prayer—asking God to reassure me, to help me feel His love. Sometimes, though, I’ve felt totally sunk in darkness.

But every time, whether I’ve asked for it or not, a message has pierced the gloom. An idea so perfect for that moment that it could only be from God, who is perfect Love itself. And it’s taught me something I go back to when I’m tempted to believe that a problem is just too big, or that I can’t hear God. It’s taught me that Love gets through. Always.

And Love doesn’t just get through to me, or to those who are “good at praying,” although there are certainly things we can all do to hear Love more readily. I find that quieting my thought and being really willing to listen to God always helps. But it’s also reassuring to know that Christ, Love’s message, which lifts us into the light of spiritual reality, is “ever present in human consciousness and repeating itself” (Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. xi). So it’s always there for us to hear, and it repeats itself—so we’re sure to get the message, and to keep getting it.
