My cycle hit an oil slick—and I felt God's care

I have learned that nothing offers more complete and immediate protection in time of need than God, divine Love. This became clear to me a number of years ago, at the beginning of my sophomore year at college. I had to go to the campus one beautiful Saturday morning, and decided to ride over on my motorcycle.

Before leaving home, I took a few minutes to read that week’s Christian Science Bible Lesson. This was a little unusual for me, as I rarely studied the lesson on Saturdays. As I flipped through the selections from the Bible and Mary Baker Eddy’s book Science and Health, one particular Bible passage grabbed my attention: “Mine eyes are ever toward the Lord; for he shall pluck my feet out of the net.”

As I read it again, I asked myself what these words meant to me. It seemed that eyes symbolized what I held in my heart, my true desire. When I thought about what was truly meaningful to me, the answer was simple: I knew that I loved God. I loved how an understanding of His Christ presence had healed me and members of my family of all kinds of physical illnesses and other problems over many years.
