More focus on Christ at Christmas

Originally appeared on spirituality.com

“Couldn’t he at least have waited until after the holidays to leave me?” I wailed to a friend. It was bad enough that my husband had decided he didn’t want to be married to me anymore. It was worse that he chose November to let me know.

Now I was dreading Christmas. I didn’t want to be alone, but I didn’t want to feel out of place by being sad at someone else’s happy celebration, either.

My friend is a Christian Science practitioner. She said, “The holidays are either too sad”—and that I understood—“or too happy.”
