SIMON PETER

Over the sea of human fear,Where winds and waves surged angrily,The Master's voice rang soft and clear,As o'er the sea he came to me.

"AS ONE OF THESE."

My little child with trust unquestioningLooks up to me to solve his problems all.

The demand for church

I like to think of each church that grows up in a community as that community's answered prayer for the presence of the saving Christ—the message of God's love for humanity.

THE SONGS OF LOVE

Time's transient round of yearsOn fleeting wings may ride; But Love's perennial songsNe'er end with time nor tide.

THE NEARER VIEW

I did not know such heights were to be won!I thought them inaccessible, remote,Shining in solitude approached by none;Silent and colorless, save there should floatA fleecy sunset cloud awhile to flushIts majesty; then chilled, drop down in tearsUpon the summit, frozen by the hushTo icy mantle thickening with the years.
Thy will, O God, be done with me,For I am Thine!Above earth's clouds—from error free—My faith triumphant turns to Thee,O Father, Saviour mine!

THE VISION OF TRUTH

What traveler, wand'ring through some murky town,Begrimed with dirt and grim with lurking crime,But bears within him visions of a climeWhere peace and beauty vale and mountain crownWith gentle radiance, and the city's gownA robe of glory is; where hate nor timeHolds any slaves, where being is sublime,And Love knows neither nor jealous frown?
God's spirit falls on me as dewdrops on the rose,If I but like a rose my heart to Him unclose.

WORK

Each common duty, like a crystal cup,With life's elixir foaming, brimmeth o'er.
