THE VOICE OF TRUTH

Lead on and upward, O thou voice divine!Full well we know that matter's temporal claimWeighs not one jot against our heavenward course,And now we fain would prove it.

THINK OF—TO-DAY

In asking for to-morrow,What we think to-morrow's need,We forget to-day, its sweetnessAnd the fulness of its meed.

COMMUNION

With Thee, O God!How beauteous is the morn! What glory hath the dawn,Thy presence near!Wakened by Thy dear voice,How doth my heart rejoiceWhen nature's morning songBursts on my ear.

THE STORM STILLED

Dark was the night, and full of doubt and sorrow,God's smile was hidden neath a load of fears ;Each day wore on in dread of the to-morrow,And all life's sunshine was absorbed in tears.

"ILLUSIONS."

Sickness and pain and death, if true they be,Must be a part of Truth.

RAIN ON THE BEACH

The clouds hang low, like veils of drifting smoke,With passing, steam-like flurries, showing whiteAgainst the dripping heavens' misty cloak,The more impressive in its silent might.

NOT FAR AWAY

Not far away dwells my beloved one!Not simply where the eternal hillsAre clad in brightness, and a great white throneReflects the beauty of a land most fair,And wealth of glory fills the ambient air:Not there—so far away—not there!

MORNING HYMN

Lord of my day, I come to TheeLed by that sweet humilityWhose way is peace.

PEACE

A Weary one sat idly by a seaOf storm-tossed human hope and fear.

EVEN IN DREAMS

When, on my couch, last night, pain seemed to search meout,And cast its ghostly thrall my helpless sleep about,Waking at length to consciousness more clear and free,My heart I found, dear God, already turned to Thee,Already turned, great Love, in trust to Thee!

SECURE

The bird rests on the swaying bough,Content to sit and swing; If danger frowns, he mounts and soarsSecure on fearless wing.

HEAVEN

Open thou the gates of heaven,'Tis an easy thing to do,—Love with all thine heart thy brother,And unto thyself be true.
