Poems

Since Father Time stands still, and heaven is here,And all eternity is ours by gift,Should we not learn from God — yes, know, indeed,That every cloud contains a friendly rift?

LONGING

Come that unshadowed dayWhen naught but good shall be,And mortals, wearily,No more shall cast awayThe blossoms, withered, sere,That but an hour agone,Dew-fragrant with the dawn.

OMNIPRESENCE

Hitherto the Lord hath helped us—Rest, my soul, in that sweet thought:Every evil that assailed us,Overcome and brought to naught.

ARBUTUS

Dainty harbinger of spring,Pure and pale and pink and sweet,How your myriad voices singFrom the moss beneath my feet.

SAFETY

In Thee, the Life, the Truth, the Light, Of all existence pure,From secret foe, from tempter's blight,In Thee I rest secure.

CREATION

Beyond the one eternal Mind,What more will men by searching find,If God be All-in-all?

ASPIRATION

Holy Father, wise and gracious.

AT LAST

How long ye called me,And I would not hear! For I was deafenedBy the noise of fear!

EASTER

This Easter morn, O Son of God,Abide with me;For shadows fall from the dark crossOn CalvaryUpon my path; and Love aloneCan make them flee.
