Reflection

At dawn, the tired world not yet awake,I rose and sought the quiet water's edge; And on the placid surface of the lakeEach purple ridge, each cliff and rocky ledge,Each silent cedar, pine, and paling starReflected lay, and imaged forth, sereneAnd still—no breeze to ruffle or to marThe calm and beauty of the encircling scene.

The One Hundredth Psalm

Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, ye lands;Unto Him, O nations, truth and love be bringing;Serve the Lord with gladness, good His purpose stands;Come before His presence, praise His name with singing.

The Christ-Way

Dear shepherd of us all,Thy words ring clear:Beloved, feed my sheepAnd lambkins dear.

The Will of God

Sweeter than honey in the comb,Sweeter than song of bird on tree,Sweeter than cheerful fires of home,Sweeter than eve's tranquillity—Thy will, O Lord, to me!

In Faith Serene

Oh, not with striving came the demonstration,The answered prayer, the blessing I had sought; Not by the mind's intensive concentrationHeading the marshaled regiments of thought,Through the sheer force of my determination—Not by such efforts was the healing wrought.

Fulfillment

The wilderness and lonesome moorOffer glad psalms of praise to Thee,And deserts drear rejoice, and pourAt Love's dear shrine, their symphony.

The Awakening!

"Inspiring discontent,"*That will not let us restSupinely self-deceivedIn this false world of shades,But urges us to riseOn wings of holiness,Where freed thought sings and bathesIn chastity and light!

Love Meets Our Need

When worldliness would strive to makeMy thought confused and slow,My heart goes back to that fair timeIn the glad long ago,

Our God Is Love

Is there a brother man whose needIs a loving word, a kindly deed?
Oh, that our sons may be as stalwart as treesPlanted beside the river's verdant brim;As trees whose boughs shall never lose their leaves,Whose roots reach deep into the living stream.

I Thank Thee!

I thank Thee, Father, for Thy love,That knows of naught but good;I thank Thee for Thy constant careThat gives me daily food.
