The Secret

Life holds a song to fill the heart,Where sorrow dwelt before.

Expectation

I make my prayer, and quietly waitThe answer which must surely be;God's purpose holds no angry fate,His loving voice will speak in me.

The demand for church

I like to think of each church that grows up in a community as that community's answered prayer for the presence of the saving Christ—the message of God's love for humanity.

Look up to God, O sad and sorrowing heart,From every mortal impulse turn away,And learn the peace that Spirit can impartTo all who learn in reverence to pray.

Discipleship

Jesus , I hear thy voice of gentle powerCalling to me,As in that far-off sacred hourIt called in Galilee:Fishers of men!And in that unity of heart with heartExpectant of the Christly call,Thou calledst allWho through all time,In every age and every clime,Should follow thee.

Wednesday Evening Meeting

When I have come where human heartsAre prompted by the urge to praiseThe God of life, to whom belongThe power and beauty of our days;

Love's Allness

Though heavy clouds may seem to be above thee,And thou dost fear,Declare Love's allness with a faith undaunted—The skies will clear!

Gratitude

I thank Thee, gracious Father, for tender, loving care.

The Tide of Love

If there were not the rushing of His graceTo stem the backward thoughts that would effaceMy calm, by stinging memories that retraceRegrets, revive misdeeds, old errors base,My heart would low be laid.

Supremacy

Forgive them, Father, said our gentle Lord—Unknowing what they do—and to the adored,Whose mercy he had daily lived to prove,Rose that pure message of transcendent love.

Supply

Go first to where the source of substance lies.

"Blessed are the peacemakers"

Blessed are ye that make for peace,The eternal promise stands.

Arise!

Grieve not for what has gone before,Nor gaze with longing eyesInto the future's dim expanseTo list the dream that lies.
