Poems

Daily Bread

Tired worker, still unwearied in devotion,Rest and renewal are provided with your task;Be not self-pityful, lest privative emotionDeny to you God's wealth because you will not ask.
Pray in the silence of the listening night,That God unclose dull eyes and give them light.

"Unto the clouds"

Earth has donned her somber robes, weeping the hours away;Day is bedraggled, deluged, drear; storm—clouds and winds hold sway;Mountains befogged 'neath misty veil; in valleys the waving grainAnd beauty that walks in garden plots, lie trampled and drenched with rain.

My Inheritance

It seemed a desert place in which I stood—Distressed, alone, discouraged, ill with fear.
With this glad psalm we lift our eyes;We ponder in the silent hourThe law of Love, and realizeTruth's blessed healing power.
