A world without conflict

In a world where border clashes and strife between peoples seem to dominate, it is a joy to find an area where peace between nations is the norm. The longest unfortified border in the world exists between Canada and the United States of America. Here cooperation and mutual interest are symbolized in the Waterton/Glacier International Peace Park, whose peaks and valleys straddle the border between the province of Alberta and the state of Montana. Established fifty-six years ago, the park is located toward the western end of the nearly 4,000-mile-long border between these two countries.

The Waterton/Glacier Park information brochure encourages visitors to enjoy the tranquil beauty of the lakes, mountains, and wildlife, and find peace. "We smile at the various accents and enjoy the differences and similarities of the two lands," the brochure says. And it adds: "We have enough peace to share. Take a little bit home with you." Waterton/Glacier Guide, July 1988 .

Christ Jesus' teachings tell of God's peaceful kingdom. As we learn more of this divine reality, we begin to see that all people can share a common kinship in God through the Christ that Jesus represented. He brought to light the unity that exists now between God and His idea, man. So as we begin to identify ourselves, not as warring mortals, but as members of a spiritual family with God as our Father, we are helping to build a civilization where strife and conflict cannot continue forever. The reality that we are brothers and sisters in Christ begins to appear.
