Quick healing of toe injury
I am grateful to share a healing that occurred last year—one that clearly illustrates the immediacy of God’s care and the practical, prayer-based discipline of Christian Science nursing.
As I was moving a wooden pallet out of our driveway, my foot caught against the edge, tearing away a significant portion of my big toenail. I turned immediately to what I rely on daily as a Christian Science nurse—the understanding that man’s true being is spiritual, intact, and continuously governed by God, Spirit. In my work, I have learned that healing is supported by calm spiritual clarity expressed through orderly and intelligent practical care. That spiritual poise shaped my response.
Earlier that morning, my study of the week’s Bible Lesson from the Christian Science Quarterly had felt especially nourishing. Now, it strengthened my confidence in God’s lawful government and helped me recall Mary Baker Eddy’s statement, “Accidents are unknown to God, or immortal Mind, and we must leave the mortal basis of belief and unite with the one Mind, in order to change the notion of chance to the proper sense of God’s unerring direction and thus bring out harmony” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 424). Holding my thought to this truth made it natural for me to reject the suggestion that chance or material conditions could interrupt divine order.
