Hiking in harmony
As I quite like hiking, and love Christian Science healing, it’s particularly happy for me when those two things coincide. I’d like to share a couple of such experiences here.
Several years ago, after a steep ascent and descent of a local peak, I sat down to enjoy some water and the pleasant afternoon. When I stood up, one leg suddenly cramped and was quite painful. The remaining couple of miles to the car were flat, and I was able to hobble along in that direction. I also prayed, knowing from my own and others’ experiences the healing power of prayer as taught in Christian Science.
A poem by the Discoverer of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, came to thought.
Entitled “ ‘Feed My Sheep,’ ” it begins by asking God, “Shepherd, show me how to go / O’er the hillside steep” (Poems, p. 14). In praying through the full poem, I was asking divine Love, God, to show me, in the face of pain and limitation, how to demonstrate my true health and freedom as a child of God.
