The plum tree’s blossoming—and mine
When I listen with my heart, I see God’s expression everywhere. And I am naturally led.

“The kingdom of God is within you” (Luke 17:21). These words from Christ Jesus are so much in my thoughts that I’ve asked myself why the phrase comes up so regularly. I’ve often thought: “Is there something I need to learn? I know that without God, I am nothing. I know I am His reflection. I express divine qualities.” Still, I felt I needed to give that Bible phrase some more attention.
Every day, year after year, I sit in the same spot at lunchtime, in front of a large window that overlooks the garden. I enjoy contemplating the beauty of the plants, the different shades of color, the different shrubs, the green of the leaves. Through the window I can see a huge plum tree. In the spring, at first only small buds and tiny green leaves are visible, but then it is covered in beautiful white flowers. Each flower has five petals, all the same size and harmoniously arranged. I delight in the tree’s beautiful process of development and growth. Sometimes I take photos and share them with people.
One day, seeing its beauty, I remembered part of a poem about a plant’s development, which I used to teach to small children. It says:
