Prayer’s sudden impact
Recently, a heavy wooden attic ladder suddenly dropped and struck me hard in the forehead, knocking me backward. Instinctively, I called out, “I’m OK, I’m OK!”
My friend who had been lowering it stayed calm. He simply put his arms around me and quietly quoted something we both knew from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy: “There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all” (p. 468). This is part of “the scientific statement of being” from the Christian Science textbook.
Immediately, I felt enveloped in God’s peaceful, loving presence as we took a few minutes to pause. Soon, we resumed our tasks, and it was as if nothing had happened—no pain, no injury, and no aftereffects.
