Some years ago my family and I lived an hour away from one of the most beautiful parks in Uruguay—a place for camping very close to the sea, with trees from all over the world.
My husband was in charge of an Army unit in the Department of Rocha, where Santa Teresa Fortress is located, and one extremely hot and dry summer a fire broke out there. As soon as my husband heard about it, he quickly headed that way. Our house stood near the national highway, and we saw dozens of cars fleeing the affected area.
At first I struggled to eliminate my fear through prayer. The news bulletins were alarming. Local television reported continuously on what was happening. The terror in the mental atmosphere seemed to spread faster than the fire.
