Saved in a sudden emergency
Originally published in Spanish
When I was young, I attended the Christian Science Sunday School at a Christian Science church. In our classes we had teachers who were kind and gentle, and who lovingly explained to us that God loves us. We learned the Ten Commandments given by Moses.
The Ten Commandments have been very important in my life, and I like to recite them regularly. They have helped me to respect God and others. Love for God and love for man are at the center of each commandment.
In Sunday School, I once had a conversation about the commandment concerning parents. Exodus 20:12 reads, “Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.” During my childhood, my father was in the United States military, and during the 1960s we lived in Spain, on an American military air force base near Madrid. My father often went on long trips around Europe. When he was away, my mother did many things for the four children of our family. She was both father and mother during those times.
