My back is now strong and pain-free
For most of my life, I did not fully understand God or my connection to Him. I had many questions and doubts. Then I started learning about Christian Science, which teaches about God’s great love and care for everyone. Through these teachings, I learned that God is not far away or unknowable but is infinite Mind, Love, and Principle—always present and governing His creation, including man, in perfect harmony. This understanding helped me deal with a serious health challenge.
A few years ago, I began experiencing constant pain in my back, making it difficult for me to sit, stand, or move around comfortably. Everyday tasks became a struggle. Before learning about Christian Science, I tried different treatments, but nothing helped, and I began to feel hopeless.
During this difficult time, an informal group of Christian Scientists at the Nyarugusu Refugee Camp where I lived shared with me copies of the Bible and of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. These books helped me gain a deeper understanding of God, Spirit, and of my true, spiritual identity as His child. One idea that greatly inspired me was this from Science and Health: “To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings” (p. vii). This showed me that I could trust God completely to sustain and heal me.
