Freedom after water-skiing accident

At a Christian Science family camp, I was looking forward to participating in one of my favorite sports, water-skiing. Although I hadn’t water-skied in several years, I expected to stand up on the first try. But after several unsuccessful attempts, I was overwhelmed with disappointment.

As I pulled myself onto the shelf at the back of the boat, I landed sharply on my rib cage and heard a crack. The driver gently helped me into the boat, and I began praying.

Despite severe pain, I knew I couldn’t be penalized for the day’s joyful activity. A Bible verse came to the rescue: “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty” (II Corinthians 3:17). Liberty in this case meant freedom from the false belief that I was separated from God and could suffer mishap or injury.
