Soul
Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.
Bārak, the Hebrew verb rendered bless, signifies kneel as well. To bless God’s holy name is to humbly revere His nature—to express wholehearted gratitude for His goodness and love. “All that is within me” describes the poet’s entire being.
“Bless the Lord, O my soul” recurs three more times in this and the next psalm, underscoring the writer’s message.
