Free from Covid
I had flown to Brazil to visit family and give my annual address to my Christian Science students’ association. After arriving, I spent five days with my family. Then I tested positive for Covid-19.
In accordance with public health measures in place at the time, I isolated myself in a hotel suite. I prayed wholeheartedly, not only for me but for my dear family—especially the kids, with whom I had spent a lot of time.
At first, I felt guilty for exposing my family, even though I hadn’t known that I had been exposed to the virus myself. Then I remembered that God is Love, “who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies” (Psalms 103:3, 4). I saw the importance of recognizing my God-given innocence and trusting in God’s healing omnipotence. Ultimately, none of those with whom I had close contact were infected, which I attribute to the effectiveness of prayer.
