Spiritual thirst: A driving force toward health, purpose, and happiness
Have you ever wished your spiritual thirst was stronger and more consistent? I have.
Reflecting briefly on my mother’s life, I have realized that spiritual thirst was a driving force in her getting to know God and attaining health, purpose, and happiness. Prior to her finding Christian Science, there had been little about her circumstances that was satisfying. Having been healed by reading Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy after medical treatment had failed to heal her (see Lillian Paul, Sentinel, March 1, 1952), she accepted the premise—new to her—presented in the book that God is Spirit and man is spiritual. This revolutionary realization set her on a new path to experiencing increased dominion over matter’s cruel limitations.
My mother spent hours each day studying the weekly Bible Lessons from the Christian Science Quarterly, and sought to discern what they were demanding of her in the way of spiritual growth. She would return from Christian Science lectures imbued with practical spiritual ideas that she was eager to apply and share. Before long she was healing others. God, divine Love, was transforming her life, and the result was greater health, purpose, and happiness.
