Healing and harmony during pregnancies and births
When my husband and I were expecting our first child, we decided to plan for a home birth and met regularly with a midwife.
During the pregnancy, I also talked often with a Christian Science practitioner. Through our conversations and my own spiritual study, I gained a clearer sense of God, Spirit, as the only creator, and of man’s (everyone’s) true identity as God’s spiritual creation—already perfect, whole, and complete.
One idea that was so helpful was a Bible verse from Proverbs: “The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it” (10:22). This helped me understand that what God gives us is entirely good; there is no “mixed blessing” of some good and some bad. Since society often places a heavy emphasis on pregnancy as a time of discomfort or burden, this idea of complete goodness helped dispel the suggestion of anything unlike God, unlike good, in my life. This thought helped me feel calm, peaceful, and healthy during those months of pregnancy.
