Burned hand quickly healed

One evening this past winter when I was in the kitchen fixing dinner, I set a cookie sheet that had been in a 400-degree oven in a roasting pan. As I picked up the pan with my left hand, I didn’t realize that a corner of the cookie sheet was protruding, and I immediately felt it touch the skin between my thumb and forefinger.

After I set the pan back down, I turned away without looking at my hand and declared that this had not really happened to me, a spiritual idea created by and belonging to God. God was not burned, so I could not be burned. I felt a deep spiritual understanding of what I had just declared, and at one with my Father-Mother God. God’s tender love for me was so very tangible to me at that moment!

A phrase from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy came to me, and I looked it up later to recall the entire statement. It is from page 74 and reads, “There is no bridge across the gulf which divides two such opposite conditions as the spiritual, or incorporeal, and the physical, or corporeal.” I felt so safe and cared for at that moment, having been reminded that there was “no bridge” to connect “two such opposite conditions” because the spiritual condition is all that is real and exists. I am a spiritual being, never material nor physical.
