Truth brings swift healings
On my way to volunteer on the evening shift at our Christian Science Reading Room, I stopped by the grocery store and picked up a couple of pieces of fried chicken. While I was driving and hurriedly eating, a chicken bone got stuck in my throat and would not move. To calm my fears, I held to the truth of God’s infinite presence, power, and loving care for each of us.
When the worker I was relieving left, I was still unable to speak clearly. I considered coughing to force the bone out of my throat, but did not feel comfortable doing that. The thought of trying to wash the bone down with water was equally uncomfortable.
But Psalms 46:1 promises, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” So I prayed and began to read the Bible Lesson for that week, found in the Christian Science Quarterly. As I became engrossed in the citations in this Lesson, which were from the Bible and from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, I forgot about the bone in my throat. About 15 minutes into this reading, I felt the bone dissolve and wash down my throat easily on its own, and there was no more distress.
