Double vision healed
Last year, I began to experience double vision. It was serious enough that I couldn’t drive, and it made reading almost impossible. Both close up and at a distance, I was seeing two of everything; the effect was like being cross-eyed.
I prayed about this for a week or two, but there was no change, so I contacted a Christian Science practitioner for prayerful help and healing. One point that we talked about was this statement from the Bible: “A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways” (James 1:8). Also in the Bible, we read that “we have the mind of Christ” (I Corinthians 2:16). We talked about having only the mind of Christ—we reflect the divine Mind, which is one, not two or many, and this Mind is focused, clear, and precise, never diverging into false views or opinions.
I also found this idea from the Bible helpful: “The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light” (Matthew 6:22). Along with this, I prayed to understand more fully the Glossary definition of eyes in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy: “Spiritual discernment,—not material but mental” (p. 586). It came very clearly to me that I needed to be praying more each day to sharpen and define my spiritual discernment of man (which includes everyone) as the pure, spiritual image and likeness of God.
