Freed of flu symptoms through steadfast prayer

One Friday morning a few months ago, anticipating a weekend full of love-filled obligations, I woke up with very aggressive symptoms of the flu. Immediately, as I do every morning before my feet hit the floor, I prayed to God. I love pondering deeply each line of the Lord’s Prayer. I also affirm that God is Mind, the only Mind guiding every thought of the day. And I firmly deny that there is any other mind opposing that.

The symptoms continued to be assertive, so I found it necessary to be even more diligent in my prayer that day. I knew that God, our Father-Mother, was watching over me. I reminded myself that in the kingdom of God, divine Love, is a strong defense. How did I know that? Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer of Christian Science, wrote in an article titled “Contagion” in Miscellaneous Writings 1883–1896, “A calm, Christian state of mind is a better preventive of contagion than a drug, or than any other possible sanative method; and the ‘perfect Love’ that ‘casteth out fear’ is a sure defense” (p. 229).

Furthermore, I prayed to see that because the man of God’s creating is protected and governed by Him, no one is susceptible to the suggestion that disease is real and contagious. The appearance of disease suggests that evil is real, that it has power and presence, but this is a false belief, not truth.
