‘I just don’t know, but God does!’
A number of years ago, I learned a very important lesson about spiritual understanding and trust in God’s care.
My family and I were living in an American suburb. Earlier that year, I had been let go from my job as an engineer for a large chemical company. My firing came just about a week prior to the company’s closing of a major center in the area and releasing about 600 other engineers into the local market. At the time, unemployment in the area was running between 10 and 15 percent. Needless to say, the technical market was suddenly swamped with highly-talented people, all desperately looking for work.
After about two months, a job offer at a new company in a remote city offered hope and promise. However, after I’d been on the job for only two weeks, the company closed my division and fired everyone but me and my direct superior. For the next three months, I was dreading every other Friday because Friday was the day when they would tell me if I would be staying on for another few weeks, or going home without a job.
