A moment of spiritual awakening
Sometimes we have a moment in our lives that changes everything. An “aha” moment, to use a popular phrase, when we get some inspiration or insight that suddenly brings clarity to a situation or gives us a new perspective. Even more wonderful than these “aha” moments, though, are those moments we have when the Christ, the divine message from God to men, lifts our thought out of a burdened, material view of life to a spiritual view, filling consciousness with hope, faith, and the expectation of good.
I’ve had many of these deeply inspiring moments, but one in particular stands out. It was at a time when I was suffering from a heightened state of anxiety, worrying over the many problems my husband and I were dealing with in regard to our business, which was failing, our financial woes, and the challenges of raising a young daughter. I felt it even when in church and often wanted to run out of the building and not return.
In fact, I was becoming convinced that I was not a real Christian Scientist at all, because I was unable to pray or do the spiritual study I had hoped to do with any clarity or understanding. Finally, I decided to spend a few days at a Christian Science nursing facility. I didn’t need physical care, but I needed a spiritual retreat, somewhere where the atmosphere would be peaceful and hopeful.
