Always digging deeper
When I read Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy all the way through for the first time, it was the result of an assignment I received when I completed Primary class instruction in Christian Science. Our teacher asked us to read all of Mrs. Eddy’s writings during the next year. For me it took this specific assignment to get me started.
In the beginning it was not my intent to read Science and Health multiple times. But since then I certainly have. I don’t plan to read the Christian Science textbook a certain number of times during each year. I read the book when I feel inspired to read it, which has turned out to be five or six times a year. Do I get fresh insights each time I read the textbook all the way through? The answer is an overwhelming “Yes!”
Here is an encouraging passage from Science and Health pertaining to this topic: “Although this volume contains the complete Science of Mind-healing, never believe that you can absorb the whole meaning of the Science by a simple perusal of this book. The book needs to be studied, and the demonstration of the rules of scientific healing will plant you firmly on the spiritual groundwork of Christian Science” (p. 147).
