Trust God to lead

I just wanted to express my gratitude. The article “ ‘One step enough for me’ ” by Alice Hummer, in the January 12, 2015, Sentinel, really uplifted my thought. I am just starting out in a new career, and it was so comforting to realize that I don’t have to know “the distant scene,” or big picture, right now. I simply need to trust God to lead me one step at a time. It took away any fear that was lingering in my thought. I am always so grateful for the periodicals and for their healing messages.

Inspiring and helpful

[“Detecting and rejecting the counterfeit,” Robert MacKusick, January 12, 2015, Sentinel]

Thank you to Robert for this inspiring and helpful article. In reading it, the words of Hymn No. 5 from the Christian Science Hymnal came to thought. It says, “Then all of Truth you must approve, / And only know the real” (Irving C. Tomlinson). Both the article and hymn are strengthening my prayers to “only know the real,” by which the unreal readily becomes detected and rejected, with healing results. Thanks again!

How important

This is to express appreciation for how important the Christian Science periodicals are for growth in knowledge and understanding.

Having grown up in another denomination, I became acquainted with Christian Science beyond the age to attend Christian Science Sunday School. So without the benefit of a Christian Science Sunday School foundation, I began learning by attending Sunday services and Wednesday evening testimony meetings and reading the weekly Christian Science Bible Lessons. But I felt I had missed something in the form of the more formal instruction of Sunday School and wanted the opportunity to learn more. The periodicals became a Sunday School of sorts. Every author, testifier, poet, and editor became a teacher. Every quotation from the Bible or Mary Baker Eddy’s writings was there for elucidation and application.

For over a quarter century I have read every issue of The Christian Science Journal and Sentinel from cover to cover. Each contributor has helped me grow, whether or not I have sent a note of thanks.

After a few years of study I joined The Mother Church and a branch church and took class instruction. My “prayers” for a Sunday School experience were ultimately fulfilled in a less selfish way; that is as a Sunday School teacher, but always as a lifetime
student.
