Our role in the healing mission of church
Through the years, church has often faced questions about how to be relevant, or if it even is relevant. And the same is true today. But the healing of humanity’s ills will always be relevant. In Christian Science, that is the purpose of church, and there can be no higher purpose for each of us individually than dedicating ourselves to supporting that healing work.
The Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, defined the institution of church this way: “The Church is that institution, which affords proof of its utility and is found elevating the race, rousing the dormant understanding from material beliefs to the apprehension of spiritual ideas and the demonstration of divine Science, thereby casting out devils, or error, and healing the sick” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 583).
Elevating the race. Lifting humanity out of enslaving material beliefs. Leading others into the freedom of spiritual understanding and the healing it brings. This is what your church and mine are here to do in our communities. And this is what many of us love to support.
