Feeling of isolation and symptoms of illness healed

A couple of years ago I moved to northern Michigan to be nearer to my daughter and her family. While I was very grateful to be given the opportunity to live in my daughter’s lake house, I was feeling quite isolated since it was about twenty miles from the nearest small town and my daughter’s home.

It was nearing the weekend before Christmas, and I had joined friends at the local senior center for a pre-holiday gathering. Soon I began to feel quite ill. I excused myself, drove home, and went immediately to bed. I called a Christian Science practitioner to pray for me, and I was in touch with her throughout the afternoon. When we spoke, she would share ideas about God’s love for me and the certainty of Christ-healing.

As evening approached, both the practitioner and I felt it would be wise to have someone with me, and we discussed Mary Baker Eddy’s provision in the Church Manual for Christian Science nurses (see p. 49). The closest Christian Science nurse was about two hours away. I called her, and although she was willing to make the trip, inclement weather prohibited her from doing so that evening. So I called a local friend, who graciously agreed to come stay with me through the night.
