Too good to be true?
I’m sure most of us have heard the expression “It’s too good to be true.” In fact, we may have said or thought it ourselves upon learning that something wonderful was happening or being realized, and we feared it must be unreal or unbelievable.
But if we honestly ever feel that there is anything too good to be true, it’s a sure sign we may need an expanded or more accurate concept of God—to better understand that God Himself is good itself, and that we are indeed worthy of all the goodness God imparts.
The Bible tells us that all good is spiritual, that God is its source, and that He bestows His goodness impartially and without interruption: “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning” (James 1:17). Just as a parent wouldn’t withhold anything good from his child, so God wouldn’t (and couldn’t) withhold good from us—anymore than the sun can withhold its rays.
