A moment of need and a favorite psalm

Many years ago, my husband and I flew with our close friends in their Cessna twin-engine airplane from the interior of British Columbia to the Baja California Peninsula. It was the middle of February, and the weather was cold, stormy—and there was lots of snow. This was an impromptu holiday plan in the middle of winter. The pilot was a doctor and his wife a nurse. They both knew I was a Christian Scientist.

The plane interior was small, and there were no high-tech instruments. We had only geographic maps to guide us all the way. The four of us would have the maps in hand, look out the window, and see certain mountain ranges or landmarks, and we would decide which way to go. We arrived at our destination safely, spent a couple of days in the sunshine, and then were ready to fly home.

The farther north we got, on our flight home to Canada, we encountered storms. The plane seemed so tiny, and we were tossed and rocked by the high winds and swirling snow. Feeling very fearful, I began silently praying for our safety. My friend in the backseat (the nurse) and I were very quiet and afraid during this time. Whenever I travel, I always have with me a copy of The Christian Science Journal, Sentinel, and the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy.
