Getting to know God
Getting to know God wasn’t something I ever thought about as a kid or a teenager. I was much more interested in friends and having a good time. By my early 20s, however, a serious health problem had developed, and my life was spiraling downward. The medical treatment I had received had failed, and friendships that I had depended on emotionally hadn’t proved to be good ones.
There seemed to be no answers. I had been brought up attending the Christian Science Sunday School, and now I felt my only option was to go back to the teachings of Christian Science. I got hold of a copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, and I began to read.
One day, I found myself in pain. In relation to the other problems in my life, this pain was actually a relatively minor issue, but I opened Science and Health at random, and this statement seemed to stand out: “… There is no pain in Truth, and no truth in pain; …” (p. 113).
