The strength to stand
The Bible tells us, “God hath made man upright” (Ecclesiastes 7:29). Being upright can refer to being in a vertical position or to being righteous, and both apply to the healing that can take place as we understand what is true of the man of God’s creating. We learn in the first chapter of Genesis that we are made in the image and likeness of God, and that God beheld His entire creation as “very good” (verse 31).
Christ Jesus proved man’s inherent uprightness and perfection in his many healing works, and he counseled his followers, “Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect” (Matthew 5:48). So man’s uprightness is not an idle theory; it is a spiritual fact, provable through healing.
Mary Baker Eddy, who was an earnest student of the Scriptures, discovered that the law of God, which produced healing in biblical times, still applies to us today. Her study and practice of the Bible’s teachings led to her discovery that God doesn’t create evil, and that a right understanding of God heals sickness, sin, lack, and every other sort of problem facing humanity.
