The door of blessings opened
Skimming through a local newspaper one day in 2006, I noticed a feature about a Christian Science lecturer who had recently spoken in our area. Deeply depressed at the time because of my daughter’s illness, I read that article as a drowning man catches at a straw. The term Christian Science was totally new to me, but reading about it gave me hope that nothing is impossible for God to heal.
I was curious to know more and wanted to meet the Christian Science lecturer. My husband found his phone number and arranged a meeting with him. Guided by the lecturer and his wife, we started attending Sunday services and Wednesday testimony meetings at a Christian Science church. The calm, serene, embracing atmosphere of the church inspired me and my family. I was touched by the selfless love showered on us by each and every member of the church. After so many weary years of difficulty, I really felt the presence of divine Love in church.
My daughter had chronic constipation, for which I had to give her medication daily. In Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy writes, “Mind regulates the condition of the stomach, bowels, and food, the temperature of children and of men, and matter does not” (p. 413). This statement helped free our family from fear, and in two weeks we witnessed my daughter’s complete freedom from the constipation. The healing increased our confidence in God.
